Zone II 5th Metatarsal Base Fractures (Jones Fracture):

  • Located at the "metaphyseal-diaphyseal junction" or "proximal diaphysis" of the 5th metatarsal
  • The fracture involves or is directed towards the 4th-5th metatarsal articulation
  • Mechanism: Usually from extreme forefoot adduction. Can be from direct trauma.
  • Increased risk of nonunion due to vascular supply to area
  • Treatment: NWB for 6-8 weeks. Possible surgical fixation depending on displacement.
