Answer: C2 extension teardrop fracture

Mechanism: Force hyperextension of neck with avulsion of anterior-inferior endplate of the vertebral body due to its attachment to the anterior longitudinal ligament

Radiographic Findings: Triangular shaped (teardrop) fracture fragment

Pathology: This fracture can be stable or unstable depending on fracture displacement and/or spinal cord injury. This injury can be associated with central cord syndrome, other cervical spine fractures, or vascular injury to neck.

Treatment: Strict c-spine precautions and involvement with your spine surgeon
