Pitfalls in management

  • Failure to recognize neurovascular compromise, so consider continuous pulse ox on the affected limb
  • Delayed diagnosis of compartment syndrome and risk for Volkman's ischemic contracture 
  • Failure to consult orthopedics as this injury requires early operative repair
