EMDaily Board Review Question 8 with Dr. Joseph Cesarine
Primary tabs
A 45 year old male with known history of depression presents to the Emergency Department after a relative called EMS for concern for intentional overdose. EMS reports the relative reported that the patient took their bottle of digoxin and "took all of the pills." The relative is not sure how many pills were in the bottle and does not know the exact time of ingestion. The patient is well appearing and is hemodynamically stable. The patient reports some mild nausea. An ECG obtained shows normal sinus rhythm with a heart rate of 107 with no evidence of dysrhythmia or conduction abnormality. Basic laboratory studies including a basic metabolic panel were all within normal limits. A serum steady-state digoxin concentration results as 6.2 ng/mL. What is the most appropriate management for this patient at this time?
